Whilst I'd be lying if I said looks don't have an effect it is generally in my opinion a first impression effect, I much prefer people with a lively personality, intelligent but not pompous, flirty and jokey etc. who are understanding and thoughtful when needed etc.
If someone has a great personality you tend to find their looks more attractive as well, and vice versa I guess. hmm
